60-MM-301 /FERDND VI

- - - - confirmed. overstrike of CAROLVS III on FERDND VI

The Pillar type was supposed to have been superseded by the Portrait-type based on a Royal Edict of September 19, 1759. However the trial pieces from the dies that were cut during the 1760 have to be sent to Spain. Royal approval was granted on May 13, 1761. However for unknown reasons, minting using the new type of dies did not begin until April 8, 1772.
